Abstract

894,306. Slip couplings. BIRFIELD ENGINEERING Ltd. May 3, 1960 [May 8, 1959], No. 15820/59. Addition to 876,592. Class 80 (2). The torque limiting clutch of the parent Specification, in which the driving connection is provided by rollers 7 yieldingly engaged in recesses 5 in a driven member 3 by a spring, is modified by replacing the spring by a number of spring rings 8, 8a, the rings 8 being stronger than the other rings, and the number of rings 8a being chosen to provide the desired limiting torque. In a modification all the spring rings are of the narrower and weaker 8a type. As in the prior Specification, separation of the driving and driven members 2, 3 is prevented by a spring ring 11 housed in a groove 12 in the member 3 and sprung into a groove in the member 2. To withdraw the member 3, screws 14 are adjusted to contract the ring into the groove 12.
