Abstract

A fuel composition as in the parent Specification contains less of the condensation product of an alkanolamine and an alkylene oxide or an ester or ether thereof than the maximum amount which will dissolve in the hydrocarbon fuel together with a minor proportion of an organic solvent for the condensation product which is miscible both with water and with the hydrocarbon fuel. Suitable solvents include methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and butyl alcohols, acetone, diethyl ketone and methyl ethyl ketone, ethylene, propylene and hexylene glycols, hexylene triols, and alkyl ethers of ethylene, diethylene and triethylene glycols, and glycol esters such as ethylene glycol mono-acetate and tri-ethylene glycol monopropionate. Mixtures of such solvents may be used. The amount of solvent may be up to 5% of the fuel. The fuels may also contain tetraethyl or tetramethyl lead, iron carbonyl, dicyclopentadrenyl iron, xylidine and N-methyl aniline, ethylene dibromide and dichloride, triphenyl or tricresyl phosphate, dimethyl xylyl phosphate or diphenyl cresyl phosphate, alkyl boronic acids, alkyl phosphates and phosphites, N-N-di-sec-butyl phenylene diamine, N-n-butyl-p-amino-phenol, 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-methyl phenol, 1, 1-bis-(3, 5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) methane, N, N-dimethyl-N-(3, 5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) amine, N, N-disalicylal-1, 2-propanediamine, polymerized linoleic acids and N, C-disubstituted imidozolines.
