Abstract

893,520. Safes. PLATFORADLING A.B. Dec. 12, 1960, No. 42649/60. Class 44. As a safeguard against illicit tampering therewith, the door of a safe is provided with four auxiliary bolts 19 normally held in their retracted positions, against the action of spring 23, by flexible wires 16 which are passed round a ring 13 of glass or other brittle material and anchored at 17 to a plate 5 forming part of the door structure. The ring 13 is concentric with, but is in no way connected to, the cylinder 9 (not shown) operating the bolts 8 of the main locking system for the door. The glass ring is sufficiently protected to withstand normal transportation vibrations for example, but when abnormal vibration occurs the ring shatters, the auxiliary bolts are spring-urged to enter recesses in the surrounding safe wall, and bolts 26 enter recesses 25 in bolts 19 to prevent the latter from being retracted from their locking positions by pulling on the wires 16.
