Access to the parts by means of which a lock 29, Fig. 5 is operated, is through a key path 28, so arranged that the key has to have a flexible portion 30, Fig. 5, to allow the operating part of the key to be inserted into the operative parts of the lock, the key path being provided with guide grooves for the key. In the embodiment shown the key path has straight portions 28a, 28b connected by an arcuate portion 28c, and is provided with quide grooves 32, Fig. 3, which receive guide pins 33, Fig. 5 on the key to direct it into the lock. In a second embodiment the key has a detachable bit and guide pins are provided on the bit and on the key shank. As described the lock 29 is one of four used on a safe or strongroom door 1. Fig. 1 (not shown) to lock bolts 36 in position in recesses 37 in bars 5 which lock the door. The lock 29 and bars 5 are protected by a drill and cut resistant plate 11.
