Abstract
893,110. Pneumatic tyres. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIKEN N.V. July 17, 1958 [July 20, 1957], No. 22971/58. Class 144 (2). A rubber or like faced pneumatic tyre has a carcase reinforced by wires of diameter not more than 200 microns made of steel of the type described in Specification 744,140 having a carbon content not less than 0.4%, which steel, in a state in which it consists of at least 80% austenite, is cooled, and may be simultaneously deformed, such that on reaching the recrystallisation temperature it consists of at least 80% austenite, and is subsequently deformed macroscopically in a temperature range, above 100‹ C., between the recrystallization temperature and 10‹ C. below the martensite-formation temperature, the last deformation being to a degree of at least 60% and carried out so rapidly that the austenite does not pass into a bainite or martensite structure. The wire diameter may be 150 microns or even less.
