Abstract
893,007. Magnetic compositions. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Jan. 16, 1951 [Jan. 17, 1950], No. 1201/50. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XL (c)] Material for rendering buildings non-reflective to radio waves in the centimetre band consists of a sheet of a binding agent in which are distributed particles of one or more electrically conducting and/or ferromagnetic material, the sheet thickness being a quarter of a specified wavelength. The concentration of the particles, and thus also the wave attenuation, is controlled so that the loss approximates to a critical value, when where K is the absorption index = #Á.# # is the dielectric constant Á is the complex magnetic permeability # is the dielectric loss angle. Continuous monitoring of the reflecting properties of the film over the required frequency range may be effected, during production, by directing the output of an F.M. microwave generator on to the film surface by a flared horn and observing the reflected signal. The particles used may be, aluminium flakes, carbon black, a ferrite, carbonyl-iron or nickeliron. The binding material may be natural rubber, synthetic rubber, or cellulose acetobutyrat lacquer.
