892,201. Tyre deflation warning devices. RICCHINI, A. Aug. 11, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958], No. 27420/59. Class 144 (1). A tyre deflation warning device comprises a housing 1 with a screw cap 19 at one end which is attachable to the inflation valve V of a tyre, a cylinder 2 within the housing 1 having a piston 12 screwed to one end to slide within the axial bore of the cap 19, the cylinder being urged towards the cap by a spring 22, and a piston 7 slidably sealed in the cylinder 2 and urged by a spring 23 in the closed other end of the housing 1 towards the piston 12, the arrangement being such that when the cap 19 is screwed to a tyre valve, the piston 12 lifts the valve pin 5 and the tyre inflation air passes via passages 18 and 16 in the piston 12 into the cylinder 2, and via passages 18, 16 and 17 into the annular space 21 of housing 1 surrounding the cylinder 2, the piston 7 being moved in the cylinder 2 by the air pressure so that a seal 8 on the piston closes a passage 5 in the cylinder wall, and when the tyre pressure falls on deflation the piston 7 is moved by the spring 23 to uncover the passage 5 and permit air from chamber 21 to pass through passages 5 and 3 in the cylinder into the closed end of the housing 1 and thence through passage 28 in the housing wall to vibrate a diaphragm 25 sleeved over the housing and thereby emit a warning whistle. The piston 7 has a passage 11 therethrough to provide for escape of any air trapped in the cylinder 2 above the piston head.
