Abstract

891,929. Building panels; walls and floors. WALLER, C. A. Dec. 18, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1957], No. 39304/57. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) A building panel comprises two relatively spaced face panels e, f to the inner faces of which are attached a number of spacers comprising webs converging in pairs towards and extending to a median plane g to define moulding channels for concrete which decrease in cross-section towards said median plane, the bisector planes of the channels at one side of the plane being substantially coincident with the bisector planes of the channels at the other side of said plane. In the panel according to Fig. 1, similar corrugated spacers c, d disposed on opposite sides of a membrane g with peaks of the corrugations on one spacer c registering with the peaks of the corrugations on the other spacer d are sandwiched between face panels e, # to which they are secured by means of adhesives, clips, &c. The face panels e, # may have apertures through which concrete &c. may be introduced. A side piece on one side of the panel carries spaced dovetail blocks b and a side piece on the other side of the panel carries spaced block a defining dovetail grooves adapted to receive the blocks b on an adjacent panel. The spacers c, d project beyond the face panels e, fat one end of the panel and are inset within the ends of the face panels e, f, at the other end of the panel to provide interengaging formations at the adjacent ends of adjacent panels. Holes 1 are provided in the side pieces through which concrete &c. may pass to form a bond between adjacent panels. The face panels e, f may be made of plywood, insulating board, hardboard or metal or may be surfaced with metal or plastic. The spacers may be formed of moulded plywood, hardboard, metal, plastic or resin-impregnated paper. The membrane g may be of polished aluminium foil, plastic or paper which may be resin impregnated. The panel may also be formed by a moulding or casting operation. The panels may be used for the construction of floors, roofs and ceilings and for walls, when they may be of storey height. The panels may be arcuate. The panels may be provided with connecting blocks enabling them to be connected together to form corners. After assembling the panels into a structure the channels between the spacers c, d and the face panels e, # respectively may be filled with concrete. Reinforcing rods which may be prestressed may be secured by clips within these channels. The diamond shaped channels between the spacer c and the spacer d may be filled with thermal or sound insulating material. Alternatively the channels at one face may be filled with concrete and the channels at the other face with thermal or sound insulating material.
