891,448. Hand guards for rifles. STAATSBEDRIJF ARTILLERIE INRICHTINGEN. Aug. 23, 1960 [Sept. 9, 1959], No. 29059/60. Class 119. A hand guard for a rifle comprises a heat insulating sleeve 14 of synthetic material, the sleeve being split longitudinally and provided with a separate metallic inner tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP> supported on the barrel 1 independently of the sleeve 14 which is secured on the inner tube, the latter also being split longitudinally in a plane displaced by 90 degrees from the dividing plane of the sleeve. The foremost end of the inner tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP> is located in a centering rim 3 on the holder 2 of the foresight and the rear end of the tube has an inwardly directed rim 8 which engages behind a collar 9 of the barrel nut 5. The foremost. end of the sleeve 14 is located in a centering rim 13 on the inner tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and the rear end has a collar 15 which fits behind the rim 8 of the tube. The barrel nut 5 is also provided with an outer screw thread on which is threaded a clamping nut 16 which urges the rim 8 and collar 15 against the collar 9 and the sleeve 14 into the centering rim 13 and locks the inner tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. To remove the sleeve 14 and tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP> the nut 16 is screwed backwards. Apertures 18 in the forward part of the tube 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and -coinciding apertures 19, 20 in the rear part of the tube and in the sleeve 14 provide for a constant circulation of air along the barrel and through the air chamber 17 to cool the barrel and hand guard.
