Abstract

888,036. Change-speed gears. TATRA, NARODNI PODNIK. Nov. 11, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 38313/59. Class 80 (2). A pneumatic actuator for a change-speed gear comprises a main piston 4 and rod 10 working in a cylinder 5, and an auxiliary piston 1 provided with a throttle passage 2 and slidable on rod 10, the main piston 4 carrying a sealing washer 3. In the end position shown in Fig. 1 passage 2 is closed by seal 3 and on admitting air through inlet 7 both pistons move to the right until, in the neutral position, a flange on auxiliary piston 1 engages the end of a liner 6. The air is then admitted to main piston 4 through passage 2, the transition period while the air pressure rises in a chamber 14 between the pistons enabling synchronizing to be effected, after which piston 4 moves more slowly to the right to effect gear shift. Return movement is effected by admitting air through a second inlet 8, there being no rest in the neutral position.
