Abstract

1323793 Controlling valves of I.C. engines L A HAUSKNECHT 19 April 1971 [19 March 1970] 24931/71 Heading F1B A master cylinder piston 26 of a closed hydraulic circuit is caused to reciprocate by rotation of crankshaft 10 of an I.C. engine, reciprocation of a unit 36 of a hydraulic valve control mechanism 30 and slave cylinder piston 28 and inlet or exhaust valve 15 being caused thereby. The hydraulic pressure needed to move the slave cylinder piston 28 is higher than that needed to move the unit 36 to its extended position so that the time that valve 15 is open is controlled by the time unit 36 is in its extended position. When valve 15 is fully open, a unit 37 moves to the right in housing 35. The cam 42 controlled by handle 43 or by being connected to the accelerator, determines the time for which the inlet or exhaust valve is open and the extent of its opening.
