Abstract

A refractory body containing cordierite is obtained by firing a mix of, in per cent., pyrophyllite 20-40; talc 10-40; plastifying aluminium silicates e.g. clay 0-70; and fluxes or refractories or their mixtures 0-20. Specified fluxes are lithium minerals e.g. petalite, spodumene and lepidolite, whilst refractories mentioned are bauxite, sillimanite and zircon.
