Abstract

802,711. Injection. MENZEN. P. Aug. 27, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 26202/56. Class 71. [Also in Group II] Finely divided solids in a fluidized condition in a container 1 are introduced into liquid metal at a regulatable rate by pressure gas which is supplied through an axially-adjustable tube 9 terminating in a nozzle 7 which projects into an inlet of a blast tube 16 and forms with the latter an annular space 6 into which the solids from the container fall. In the form shown the solids in the container are maintained fluidized by pressure gas supplied thereto, through apertures 5 in the lower part of the container wall from a surrounding annular chamber 3, and adjustment of the tube 9 to vary the rate of flow of the solids is effected by a handwheel 12 on a sleeve 13 associated with said tube. In a modification the outlet from the container terminates in a ring which extends through an annular chamber supplied with pressure gas and into the converging inlet end of an axially-adjustable blast or mixing tube, and the fluidizing gas is supplied to the container from a horizontal annular chamber which is disposed between upper and lower parts of the lower conical wall of the container and has its inner wall in the form of a sieve. The container may be subdivided by vertical partitions to form a plurality of containers, each with a flap or slide controlled outlet for the supply of different solids.
