Abstract

885,401. Friction clutches. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. April 29, 1959 [May 24, 1958], No. 14684/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A stationary electromagnet 1 journals a rotor ring 3, which guides the magnetic flux produced to attract a two-part armature ring 11, 12 and engage multiple clutch discs between members 9, 13, upon needle rollers 5 mounted in a cage 6 of soft iron which substantially fills the space between the inner and outer races of the bearing, the loss of magnetic flux passing through the bearing thereby being reduced to a minimum. The two-part armature comprises inner and outer rings 11, 12 relatively slidable to compensate for lack of parallelism in the clutch discs. The clutch member 13 is fast with a pinion 14, and the rotary guide ring 3, which contains an intermediate ring 10 of non-magnetic material, is mounted through a sleeve 7 of non-magnetic material upon a shaft 8.
