Abstract

863,388. Automatic exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 25, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957], No. 24010/58. Class 40 (4). A switching circuit comprises row conductors 1 and column conductors 2 having a series circuit consisting of a rectifier Gl and the operating winding of a relay R connected at each crosspoint, the relay at a cross-point, e.g. R12, being operated by connecting the common terminal of a double voltage source E to the relevant row (or column) conductor and one of the outer terminals of the source E to the relevant column (or row) conductor, so that current flows through the relay operating coil and the rectifier (which is connected to present low impedance to this current) to operate the relay. The relay in operating completes a holding circuit by connecting the other outer terminal of the source E to the junction of its operating winding and the rectifier. The column (or row) conductors are permanently connected via further rectifiers 7 to the common terminal of the source E so that when the operating potentials are removed, the operated relay holds via the further rectifier concerned and the common terminal of the source E.
