An hydraulic ingot stripper comprises a ram 6a coupled to a hollow piston rod 5 carrying an upper piston 5a and internally a fixed piston rod and piston 2, 2a, the pump 22 and reversing switches 18, 19, 20, 21 being so connected that the stripper ram is provided with large forces for stripping or operating the jaws 7 for lifting the ingot, and small forces for moving its own weight &c.
