Abstract

883,112. Wrapping-machines. BATAAFSE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ N. V. Dec. 8, 1958 [Dec. 9, 1957], No. 39461/58. Class 94(1). Articles such as bales of rubber are wrapped in plastic film by being thrust between two joined webs which are then sealed together at the sides and behind the articles and severed transversely during the sealing. Articles 40 are each fed by a conveyer 1 on to wheels 4 on a vertically moveable platform 5. The platform descends, leaving the article on rollers 3 and a ram 12 thrusts it against the joined webs 18, 25 which fold about three sides as it passes on to an intermittently moveable conveyer 13. The web 25 is of a width greater than twice the height of the article plus its transverse width and it is folded round the article by a vertically moveable sealing member 26. The member 26 is of the shape of an inverted open topped box with one end removed, and its lower rim consists of heated elements which co-operate with resilient strips 20, 21, 22 surrounding three sides of the conveyer 13 to seal the webs about the article. The strip 20 has along its surface a rigid strip 19 which causes transverse severing of the webs through the rear seal. Further strips may be provided for severing at the side seams. The conveyer 13 removes the wrapped article and the webs remain joined to receive the next.
