Abstract

1,090,766. Packaging-machines. H BECK. May 11, 1966 [May 15, 1965], No. 20853/66. Heading B8C. Apparatus for packing articles, e.g. stacks of paper or handkerchiefs, between two webs 15, 17 comprises a conveyer which engages the margins of the webs after the articles have been placed therebetween and conveys them to transverse and marginal sealing stations, and a converging guide device which engages the articles and bows them to cause the web to be tightly drawn over the articles when they enter the marginal sealing station. The webs 15, 17 are gripped at their margins by belts 13, 14 and sealed transversely (not further described) between the articles. The guide device comprises upper and lower guide strips 26a, 27a at each side of the articles, the strips being spaced vertically to permit passage of the webs. The strips converge to compress the stack until it is bowed upwards, the upper web 17 being tightly drawn over the latter. Parallel guides 26b, 27b retain the stack in this position as it is passed through the marginal sealing station 18 where the longitudinal seams are formed. After leaving the sealing station and guide strips, the stack resumes its initial shape, causing the webs to be tightly drawn about it. In lieu of welding, the seams may be formed by gumming or stitching (not detailed). If desired the guides 26a, 27a may be on one side only.
