Abstract
882,876. Thermal switches. RHEOSTATIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 11, 1960 [March 2, 1959], No. 7227/59. Class 38 (5). A resilient blade 5 carries a contact 3 for co-operation with a fixed contact 1 and a twin armature 4 acted on by a magnet 6. The resiliency of blade 5 tends to open contacts 3 and 1 whilst the arrangement is such that the resultant magnetic force on armature 4 always acts in opposition to the blade 5 and exceeds the force thereof to maintain the contacts normally closed. A thermally-sensitive liquidfilled element 14 is connected to a capsule 13 acting on the end of a lever 16 pivoted at 18. The other end of lever 16 acts on the blade 5 through a sliding stud 21 and at a temperature predetermined by adjustment of pivot 18 by a knob 18a the contacts 1, 3 are snapped open. The mechanical force due to capsule 13 then falls more rapidly than the magnetic force so that the contact 3 attains an equilibrium position and no back stop is necessary to fix the contact gap; thus the possibility of overstressing the blade 5 by undue adjustment of knob 18a is avoided. A screw 10 acts on a stiff spring 7 carrying magnet 6 and serves to adjust the switch differential. Specification 661,242 is referred to.
