Abstract

A metal-filled aggregate formed of compressed particles is made by coating the particles with metal by passing them through a zone in which they are heated and contacted with a gaseous heat-decomposable metal-bearing compound, and then compressing the coated particles together to form the aggregate. Particles of metal, carbides e.g. of silicon and aluminium, silicides, corundum and emery may be coated by the decomposition of nickel, chromium, molybdenum or tungsten carboxyl, copper acetylacetonate, (C2H5)3 PAuCl and (C4H9)3 p PAuCl, and then subjected to pressure to form a body having no interstitial spacings.
