Abstract
881,713. Boring earth. CEMENTATION CO. Ltd. March 15, 1960 [March 20, 1959], No. 9771/59. Class 85. During preparation for underwater drilling from a float 10, an anchor block 1 is seated on the underwater bed 2, rigid guides 4 on the block are connected to the float by cables 5, and a drill head 5 incorporating a submersible motor with a drill string 17 rides down the cables into sliding engagement with the guides which prevent rotation of the head during drilling. A bridle 14 fixed to casing 22 partially entered in a hole 3 in the block is lowered with the block as it is seated on the bed. The drill head and string are then lowered on to the guides, a bridle 13 being supported by the core drill 18. When the drill head engages the guides drilling commences, the weight of the head forcing the casing into the bed. The cables pass over pulleys 7, and are tensioned by weights 11. Winches (not shown) are mounted on the float for lowering the block and head.
