Abstract
880,972. Boxes; packaging. SCHMIDT, M. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 13, 1959 ; June 27, 1959], No. 1144/60. Classes 18 and 94(1). A protective cover for articles sensitive to pressure, includes a frame 1, Fig. 1, of plastic material having a number of joined portions 4 each bounding an aperture 3 corresponding to the cross-section of the articles to be protected, and bridge pieces 5 extending from the edge 4 of each aperture 3 and merging above it as at 6. In Fig. 1, two such frames, 1 and 2, are arranged back-to-back to enclose the articles therebetween, the frames being formed with means at 8 whereby they can be secured together. In Fig. 2, the securing means are pins 7 on one frame 2 and pin accommodating apertures in the other frame 1, each pin 7 being formed with a bulge 9 or being subsequently fitted with a plastic cap 10 to prevent the frames from being readily pulled apart. In Fig. 9, only one plastic frame 17 is used, the frame having legs to space it from the bottom of a box 15. The edges 19 of the frame are engaged in slots 16 in the box walls and the box and frame may, in addition, be secured together by a surrounding band 27. The box may have a transparent lid or be enclosed in a transparent bag. An eye 23 can be used to suspend the package, and a hinged label 24 may be provided at one end of the box to act as a carrying handle.
