Class 39(3) [Also in Group XIII] A liquid or gas is heated when flowing through an annular space between an outer tube 10 and an inner tube 20 from which longitudinal fins 21 extend into the annular space. Heating means within the inner tube 20 may comprise a high temperature electric heater in place of the burner shown. Fluid to be heated enters and leaves the annular space by way of lateral conduits 11, 12 and according to the invention the fins 21 are extended across the fluid zone adjacent one or other or both of the conduits 11, 12 and are there formed with perforations 31, hence permitting a circumferential flow of the fluid in the region of the lateral conduit or conduits at the ends of the longitudinal channels formed by the fins 21.
