Abstract

879,364. Filters. AUTOMATIC COAL CLEANING CO. Ltd. May 30, 1960 [June 9, 1959], No. 19672/69. Class 46. When the rate of discharge of filter cake and filtrate from a drum or leaf rotary filter exceeds the rate of inflow of pulp, the surface level in the filter bath 4 falls, whereupon a float 1 so operates a lever 8 controlling a vacuum control valve 9 that the area of the control valve port connected to the " pickup " zone connection 11 of the filter distribution head 14 is reduced, and the area connected to the " drying " zone connection 12 is increased. If the surface level rises, the converse action takes place. The control valve 9 is preferably a butterfly valve. The linkage instead of being mechanical may be electrical or fluid-operated.
