Abstract

878,509. Fuel atomizers. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 19, 1960 [Aug. 8, 1959], No. 27179/59. Class 75(1). A duplex fuel injector comprises a central pilot nozzle 12, a main nozzle 13 surrounding the pilot nozzle and a cowling 27 surrounding the outlet 26 of the pilot nozzle and adapted to divide the pilot fuel spray into a plurality of separate spray streams. The cowling 27 has a plurality of openended apertures 28 defining the spray streams. The pilot spray intercepted by the cowling is deflected downstream. The pilot fuel is fed by passages 16, 21, and tangential ports 25 to a pilot swirl chamber 24. The main fuel is fed by passages 15, 18 and tangential ports 31 to a main swirl chamber 30.
