Abstract

878,321. Forage harvesters. LUNDELL, V. J. Feb. 4, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 3541/58. Class 6(3). [Also in Group XXX] A machine for reaping and chopping standing crop, such as hay, is provided with an upwardly-extending shoot 19 behind the chopping mechanism 10, a further shoot 62, 65, 67 communicating with the shoot 19, and having a vertical portion 67 whereby chopped crop is returned to the ground in windrows. The machine comprises a wheeled frame carrying a partly cylindrical casing 10 housing a shaft fitted with chopping members 17, the shaft being driven from the towing tractor through a shaft 39 and gearbox 40. The shoot 19 communicates with the casing 10 and terminates upwardly in a ring 58 mating with a ring 61 on the shoot-portion 62, the latter being rotatable about the ring 58 by worm-gearing 59 operable by a crank-handle 51. The vertical shoot-portion 67 carries a pivoted discharge spout 69 at its lower end, the spout being suspended by a chain 78 and having a triangular-section hollow member 74 at its outermost end, to form a hollow core in the resultant windrows.
