Abstract

878,185. Typewriters. BYERS, E.V. July 3, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 10968/58. Class 100(4) Typebars are actuated from keys by unitary coupling members consisting in part of a flexible cord or wire. Keys 8 on rods 9 of preferably rectangular cross section slide in holes 10 in the chassis and are connected to typebars 1, pivoted at 2 on a segment 7, by members 3. The members 3 are hooked on to the typebars 1 and consist in part of a flexible cord 4 which passes along grooves 5 in the frame 6 to be hooked by a cross piece 14 in a slot 15 in the rods 9. A leaf spring 16 engages the frame 6 and a shoulder on the members 3 to return the typebars after actuation. Springs or other resilient members may be incorporated in the members 3 to reduce operating shock while the flexible cord part may be passed over pulleys to change its direction. The members 3 are preferably moulded in one piece from nylon.
