Abstract

873,142. Ink ribbon mechanisms. OLYMPIA WERKE A. G. June 26, 1958, No. 20528/58. Class 100(4) An ink ribbon guide, vibrator, feeding and reversing device has the ink ribbon running parallel to the platen for a considerable distance over which it is moved close to the platen on each impression without stretching the ribbon. A cross member 2 mounts ribbon spools 30, 31, a control lever 8, and a drive lever 12. The ribbon runs from the spool 30 over guide rollers 27, 28 of carrier rods 21, 22 to the spool 31. The guide rods are articulated to intermediate levers 16, 17 pivotally mounted on pins 18, 19 and connected by pins 14, 15 to the control lever 8. On each impression a rod 20 pivots the control lever 8 clockwise and thus while the intermediate levers 16, 17 move the carrier rods and ribbon to the dot dash position shown, pins 24, 25 on the cross-bar 2 engaging slots 21a, 22a of the rods 21, 22 move them inwards as well as forwards to prevent tensioning of the ink ribbon. Ink ribbon feed and reversal is effected by a drive lever 12 having a pin and a slot connection 34, 12a with the control lever 8 which as it pivots on impression causes an extension of the arm to engage a ratchet wheel 33 to rotate the spool 31 until the reduction of the diameter of the ribbon on the spool 30 forces a three armed lever 43 to pivot until its projection 43c engages the lever 12 to cause the pin 34 to ride to the other end of the slot 12a. On further actuation of the lever 12 it will engage a ratchet wheel 32 of the spool 30 to feed the ribbon in the reverse direction. In modifications described the intermediate levers 16, 17 coact by a pin and slot connection while only one lever is connected to the control lever 8 and the sliding carrier rods 21, 22 are replaced by pivotal two arm levers which engage the levers 16, 17 with a pin and slot connection.
