Abstract
878,027. Icebreakers. HITZLER, F. May 21, 1959 [March 23, 1958], No. 17278/59. Class 113. An icebreaker has devices for producing periodic pitching movements concentrated in, at or forward of the bows. Said devices comprise out-of-balance weights a, b rotating in opposite directions at the same speed to create forces which neutralise in a horizontal direction but reinforce one another in a vertical direction. In Fig. 3 the bow portion carrying the devices is separate from the rest of the ship and connected thereto by means of resilient bodies g. In Fig. 4 the out-of-balance weight apparatus is arranged in a floating body connected to the bow of the icebreaker at i by arms h supported on resilient bodies k.
