877,770. Lubricators. JAMES, G. E., LANGDON, A. B., and DARBY, V. E. Jan. 25, 1960, No. 2670/60. Class 12 (3). An air line lubricator comprises a lubricant reservoir 2 having a duct 10 therethrough, a tangential air inlet 7 to a jacket 1 enclosing the reservoir and a balance hole 12 and a lubricant orifice 13 connecting the reservoir to the interior of duct and jacket respectively. A disc 14 forms a dirt trap with the lower end of the reservoir 2, the dirt being removed through an outlet 17. The disc 14 acts to reflect pressure-waves in a pulsating air stream through the duct 10 to the outlet 11, causing high-pressure zones in the vicinity of the hole 12 and ejection of grease through the orifice 13, where it is mixed with the turbulent air above the disc 14. A non-pulsating air stream may also be used if the disc 14 is mounted close to the reservoir. The disc 14 may be omitted so that the device acts purely as a lubricator and not as a filter also. For use with oil, a jet 18, Fig. 4, is fitted and an extension tube 23 from the orifice 12 to permit the device to be inverted in use.
