Abstract
877,491. Spinning - ring assemblies. MERRIMAN BROS. Inc. Jan. 28, 1958 [Sept. 11, 1957], No. 2820/58. Class 120(2) A spinning-ring assembly comprises a split ring-holder 2 having an oil-reservoir 6 and a traveller-ring 50; the ring is of rigid porous metal and has a circumferential groove 60 defining an annular chamber between the ring- member and the holder, which chamber holds a lubricating-wick of which the ends dip in the reservoir. The wall of the ring-holder may or may not have flanges 32, 34 received in an additional groove 58 in the ring and the wickgroove may be in two parts separated by a rib which serves to strengthen the ring and which has a gap allowing the wick to cross from one part to the other. Two wicks may be used, one in each part supplied with oil of different viscosities, the reservoir being subdivided accordingly; the flanges may extend to the part of the ring embraced by the traveller, in which case the parts of the wick-groove may be correspondingly lengthened; and the two grooves may each occupy a third of the ring-thickness. The split parts of the ring-holder are drawn together by a nut and bolt to secure the ring in position, and they may have lugs to secure it to the ring-rail.
