Abstract
1,12-Dodecanedioic acid is prepared by oxidising cyclododecene, cyclododecanol or cyclododecanone with aqueous nitric acid having a concentration of 25-70% wt. in the presence of 5-50% wt., based on aqueous nitric acid, of a C2-5 monocarboxylic acid. Temperatures of 50-100 DEG C. and pressures of 1 to 10 atmospheres are preferred. Preferably 3-10 moles of HNO3 are used per mole of C12 starting material.
