In a hydraulically actuated diaphragm pump a spring loaded relief valve is provided between the liquid actuating chamber and a reservoir and at the end of the suction stroke of the pump the valve is opened mechanically from the actuating mechanism. The link between the actuating mechanism and the valve opening mechanism may be electrical. The stroke of the actuating mechanism may be varied. Specification 825,229 is referred to.
