Abstract

875,379. Control of motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 28, 1959 [Sept. 1, 1958], No. 27987/58. Class 38 (3). The rotor winding of an induction motor 1 is connected through transformer 4 and rectifier 5 to the armature of a D.C. motor 7 which is coupled directly to the induction motor. Initially, tapping 14 is in the position shown and moves automatically to higher tapping- points as the speed increases. Variable excitation for field winding 9 of the D.C. motor is provided by potentiometer 10, movement of tapping 13 allowing the field current to be varied continuously and reversibly. Full speed operation is reached by overcoming the voltagedrop in the rectifier by reversing the back- E.M.F. of the motor 7. The induction motor may then be operated as a synchronous motor. In an alternative arrangement the D.C. motor drives a generator for feeding power back to the A.C. supply. Specification 868,763 is referred to.
