Abstract

1276843 Control of D.C. motors ANTOMA (HAIRDRESSING) CO Ltd 19 Aug 1969 [28 Aug 1968] 41169/68 Heading H2J [Also in Division B6] A shunt-wound D.C. motor, which in operation drives a reciprocating carriage of a printing machine, is controlled by switches, actuated by the carriage, which connect the windings of the motor in such a way as to produce forward rotation, reverse rotation and dynamic braking. A three-phase electric supply is converted to D.C. by a transformer I and by rectifiers, and is applied to a field coil 35 and armature 36, Actuation of a starting switch FS causes a relay BCR to operate and close contacts BCl, and further relays cause the motor to operate forwards until the carriage trips a microswitch FMS. Current is then maintained through the field winding, while the rotating motor acts as a generator and passes a current through a dissipating potentiometer VR1. Any remaining voltage produced dynamically after a preset delay is discharged through contacts BW, bringing the motor to a dead stop. The armature is then fed with current in the opposite direction, and the motor reverses until the carriage trips a microswitch FMS and initiates a further cycle. The motor speed can be controlled by varying the voltage taken from the transformer I by way of switch 34. (For Figures see next page)
