Abstract

874,267. Transformers; rectifying. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 14, 1958 [Oct. 18, 1957], No. 32582/57. Class 38 (2). A load having a centre tapping is energized from an A.C. supply line 13 through a transformer 11 having two secondary windings 14, 15 whose outer electrical ends are connected to the outer load terminals through on-load tap changing apparatus, and whose inner ends are connected to the centre tap of the load through two equalizing windings 17, 18 on a common magnetic core. The latter are so wound and connected that they substantially neutralize each other when the two windings 14, 15 are tapped symmetrically, and provide voltages respectively assisting and opposing the lower and higher voltages of the two secondary windings when these are tapped asymmetrically The load may be A.C commutator motors (not shown) or D.C. motors Ml, M2 fed through a rectifier bridge 16. According to the Provisional Specification the equalizing windings and core may be replaced by a reactor in line 19.
