Abstract
873,769. Heat exchanger units; heating liquids in bulk. TRANTER MANUFACTURING Inc. Feb. 9, 1959, No. 4453/59. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger unit 10 for use particularly as an immersion heater for a liquid contained in a tank or other vessel, comprises a pair of plates 11, 12 adapted when secured together face to face, to provide a plurality of parallel-connected sets of passages 15 for a heat transfer fluid such as steam, each set of passages extending between inlet and outlet haeders 25, 26 for the heat transfer fluid. In the preferred forms the plates are of sheet metal and are rectangular in shape the fluid passages which may for example be of circular or polyganal cross-section, being formed by deformations in the plates. The headers may likewise be formed by deforming the plates and may open out at the edges of the unit. They may be adjacent or spaced apart along the same edge or, as shown in Fig. 1, they may open out at different edges of the unit. Alternatively the headers may extend at an angle from the plane of the unit (Fig. 14 not shown). The plates are secured together by seam welding at the margins 17 and by spot welding at the abutting plate portions 16, 19, 20, 21 and 21' between the fluid passages.
