Abstract

873,711. Reciprocating motors. GENERAL MOTORS, FRANCE. Jan. 6, 1960 [Feb. 6, 1959], No. 4236/59. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVIII] A reciprocating motor combined with a gas compressor (see Group XXVIII), e.g. for a refrigerator, comprises a permanent magnet armature 33 attached to a piston 30 and movable between the poles 17, 18 of A.C. electromagnets 20, 21, and constrained by opposed spiral springs 37. The assembly is tuned to the supply frequency at full load. The magnet is contained within a frame 34 which has flanges 35, 36 to form abutments for the springs whose other ends bear against a solid cross member 16 of a stationary frame 11. The stationary frame is completed by a laminated portion 15 which carries a pair of U-shaped cores for the electromagnets, and the whole is carried within a case 10 on resilient mounts comprising rubber bushes 14 supported on conical springs 13 and having oversize holes to permit limited lateral movement. In a modification, of which Fig. 8 is an end view, the laminated part 15 is replaced by a solid member 40 into which are secured two sets of laminations 41 (and 42 behind), having centre pole pieces, and the resilient mounts have lower springs only.
