Abstract

902,184. Reciprocating motors. DOLZ, H. March 8, 1960 [May 14, 1959], No. 8117/60. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXII] In a reciprocating compressor 6 having an electric oscillator armature 5 mounted on a coil spring 23 the ends of the spring are mounted on balls 25 in bearing cages 26 to reduce the side loads applied to the piston 11. The electrical reciprocating system comprises a fixed permanent magnet 1 in a cup 2 of soft magnetic material which forms a pole ring acting in conjunction with a central core 31 to provide an annular gap 4 in which a reciprocating coil 3 of non-magnetic material is disposed. Alternating current is supplied to the coil 3 through flexible leads 7, 8. The gas inlet 20 for the compressor is arranged below the coil 3 so that it passes through the gap 4 to provide cooling for the coil before passing through passages 21 leading to the piston inlet valve 10.
