Abstract
873,391. Centrifugal separators. KOEFOED HAUBERG, MARSTRAND & HELWEG AKTIESELSKABET TITAN. April 20, 1959 [April 21, 1958], No. 13320/59. Class 23 A separator having sludge outlets 12 closed by a liquid actuated valve member 15 has the supply of valve actuating liquid automatically controlled so that at intervals the outlets are partially opened. The valve member is moved to close the outlets by liquid which is supplied by a pipe 18 and channel 20 to chambers 17, 29 excess liquid discharging from the chambers through channels 44 or 48. The valve member is moved to completely open the outlets by liquid supplied by a pipe 26 and channel 28 to a chamber 23 to move a piston 22 which moves a valve member 21 allowing the escape of actuating liquid from the chamber 17. A timer 32 closes a solenoid controlled valve 38 to shut-off the supply of liquid to the chamber 17 so that liquid leaking from the chamber 17 through the channels 44 or 48 causes the valve member 15 to move to partially open the outlets. The surge in the electric current supplying the separator drive motor due to the discharge of sludge opens the valve 38 to supply liquid to the chamber 17 to close the outlets 12. In a modification the valve 38 is opened by the closure of a contact 42 by the pressure of discharging sludge on a diaphragm 41 mounted in the wall of a casing 13 receiving the sludge.
