873,115. Reversing gearing. ZAHNSCHNEIDEMASCHINENFABRIK MODUL VEB. Nov. 29, 1957, No. 37316/57. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXII] Gearing for effecting a drive of one shaft 22 in one direction and a second shaft 25 alternatively in opposite directions comprises a pair of shafts 4, 6 adapted to be driven selectively and geared to the side members 19, 39 of a differential gear, the carrier 21, 41 of which is secured to the shaft 22, and through further intermediate gears to the side members 27, 44 of a second differential gear, the carrier 29, 46 of which is secured to the shaft 25. The arrangement of the gearing is such that the side members 19, 39 of the first differential rotate in the same direction while the side members 27, 44 of the second rotate oppositely. Thus, if either side member of the first differential is held by locking-devices 18 or 38 and the other side member driven the rotation of shaft 22 is in the same direction but that of shaft 25 is reversed. As applied to the drive of the cutter feed and the rotation of the workpiece for machining a herring-bone gear-wheel, the drive of shafts 4, 6 and operation of locking-devices 18, 38 are controlled so that while the cutterfeed continues in the same direction the rotation of the workpiece is reversed at the centre of the teeth. This control is automatically effected in the desired sequence by electrical contacts. Reversal of the feed is effected by reversal of the driving motor.
