In a conveyer of the kind designed to permit articles to be stopped and accumulated on it without stopping its movement, the conveyer comprises a pair of parallel roller conveyers 7 between which is situated a narrow belt, V-belt, rope or chain endless conveyer 6 having means for lowering it to deposit the articles on the wheels, or rollers, 8 of the conveyers 7. The belt is supported at intervals by rollers 17 mounted in hangers 10, one end of each of which is formed as a hook 11, Fig. 23, and takes over an axle 3 carrying the wheels 8. A spring 20 anchored at one end to the hanger at 19 and at the other to an adjacent axle 3 tends to turn the hanger in a counter-clockwise direction. This movement is limited by the engagement of the arms 14 of the hanger with the underside of the axle. A " sensing " hanger 30, Fig. 24, is mounted at each side of a hanger 10. Each carries a wheel 35 and is hooked over an axle. The upper surface of each wheel 35 is above the plane containing the top surfaces of the wheels 8. Each pair of hangers 30 is connected by a link 36, Fig. 21, to a hanger 10 at the rear of them. Each link 36 is seated in the hooks 13, 32 depending from the hangers 10, 30. Propelling force may be exerted upon the leading one of a group of closely packed articles and withheld from the adjacent articles rearwardly thereof until the leading article has moved sufficiently to become disengaged from the sensing means on which it is resting.
