[Also in Groups XI and XXIX] A safety device to prevent over-heating in an electric water heater of the flow-type comprises a contact spring 37 held in a position to close the heating circuit by means of a latch lever 39 which is resiliently attached to the switch cover-plate 38 and which is held in tensioned position by an angle member 40 secured to a base-plate 42 by fusible material 41. Over-heating of the plate 42 causes the material 41 to melt and release the member 40, thus freeing the lever 39 which moves away from the spring 37 whereby the heating circuit is opened.
