Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A drafting arrangement for textile spinning machines comprises at least two groups of rollers forming a drafting field between the nips of the roller groups, at least one of the said nip-forming groups being swingably supported below the drafting field so that the distance between the nip-forming roller groups can be changed by swinging the swingable group. As shown, a feed roller 3 is mounted in bearing blocks 7 rigidly attached to arms 6, top rollers 4 being mounted in holders 10, 11 loaded by pressurised fluid in a hose 16 pressing the hose against shoes 17, the pressure being transmitted by linkages 18 to the holders 10, 11. The arms 6 are rigidly attached to a pipe 13 so that the rollers 3, 4, arms 6 and pipe 13 pivot as a unit about the axis of the pipe 13. A roller trio 26, 27, 28 is similarly mounted on arms 31, weighting for the the top roller 28 being provided by a hose 34 in a pipe 33 movable with the arms 31 in slots 40 in the stand 2 as the arms 31 pivot about the axis of the pipe 13. Scales 24 are provided on the stands 2 to indicate the position of the roller groups 5, 29 relative to the fixed delivery roller group 41. The drives for the lower rollers are maintained constant in any position of the movable roller groups by means of rocking levers between the shafts of their pinions and the main drive shaft, the pinions rolling on their corresponding gears. Pivoting of the roller groups is said to give a better control of the material being drafted due to the fact that the material contacts a larger area of the drafting roller surface than displacement in the plane of the drafting field when the distance between the rollers groups is relatively great.
