Abstract
871,106. Friction clutches. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd., S. Sept. 19, 1957 [Sept. 19, 1956], No. 28712/56. Class 80 (2). A friction clutch comprises driving and driven mild steel discs 1, 6, energization of a solenoid 10 carried by a driven disc sliding the driving disc 1 leftwards of the Figure along a driven shaft 5 against the bias of a spring 13 to engage a ring-shaped surface 3 at its periphery with the adjacent face of the driven disc, a shallow recess 2 on the inner face of the driving disc 1 at all times maintaining an air gap in the magnetic flux path between the driving and driven discs.
