870,687. Printing-machines. GERICKE, E. May 6, 1959 [Sept. 4, 1958], No. 15513/59. Class 100(2) An offset rotary printing machine has a damping roller 10 co-operating directly with an inking roller 11, the roller 10 being damped by a roller 9 which dips into a fountain 12 containing damping liquid. The roller 9 rotates in contact with a second roller 8 which also dips into the fountain. The roller 8 is pressed by screwthreaded spindles having milled knobs 7 into contact with the roller 9, thus permitting variation of the thickness of the liquid film between rollers 8 and 9. Contact pressure between the roller 10 and roller 9 is determined by the weight of the roller 10 and pressure exerted by the inking roller 11. The lengths of the rollers 8, 9, 10 and 1 1 diminish in the direction towards the inking roller to avoid excessive transfer of damping liquid at the edges of the rollers.
