Abstract
870,180. Paper and like bags. SCIPER S. A. Sept. 10, 1958 [Sept. 10, 1957 ; March, 10, 1958; May 14, 1958 ; Aug. 13, 1958], No. 29045/58. Class 94(2). Bags or sachets are formed from two superposed flat foils, or sheathing, thermo-plastic film &c., and shaped so that when they are filled they open out to form a flat base on which they can stand, the bottom-edge welding line lying centrally across the flat base and is joined to the ends of one or both side edges by short lateral welds defining between them an obtuse angle. As shown in Figs. 4 and 6 a conical bag is made of two sheets 6 welded around the perimeter by two side walls welds 7, a long base weld 8, and on two other lines B<SP>1</SP> C<SP>1</SP> and C<SP>1</SP> A<SP>1</SP>. These lines form an obtuse angle so that when the bag is filled the point C<SP>1</SP> moves more into the centre of the bag and eventually a substantially flat bottom results. The base of the bag may be of any form of gradulateral or hexagonal and in volume may be conical pyramidal or cubical and may be formed with entry and pouring spouts. The bags may be sheathed partially by rigid or semi-rigid surfaces 96 Fig. 23 provided with folding scores 102 so that they conform to the opened out bag. The surfaces may have complementary tabs 99 for seaming under the bag, and have tabs 97 for engaging over a second strip (95 not shown), surrounding the bag and which is attached thereto by side wall welds 7. In a further-embodiment the bags may result in a hexagonal liquid container, Fig. 25 with side supports 108, and, a neck 114 which can be folded back into the bag beneath a strip 113 to form a sufficiently fluid tight closure. The flat sides may be cut from a web as shown in Fig. 22. The shut lateral welds defining the obtuse angle may be constituted so that the thickness of the weld is reduced near the fold, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown).
