Abstract

869,394. Waste heat steam boilers. SPANNER BOILERS Ltd. Jan. 12, 1960 [May 21, 1959], No. 17268/59.. Class 123(2) A waste heat boiler consists of a cylindrical casing e containing a nest of fire tubes a arranged annularly about a large central fire tube or flue h, the tubes a, h extending between tube plates c, d. A gas inlet box f and outlet box g are respectively disposed below and above the tube plates d, c. The hot gases enter the inlet box through a trunk j into which projects the flue h the lower end of which is formed as a seating k which is engaged by a disc valve s in the uppermost position of the latter. In its lowermost position the valve engages a seating q formed about an _aperture r in the floor of the trunk j. The cross-sectional areas of the flue h and the trunk are the same so that there is no variation in flow resistance as the valve s is raised by turning a handwheel p from its lowest position, as shown, when all the gases pass through the flue h to its highest position when the flue is closed off and all the gases pass through the tubes a. The valve position is adjusted in use to meet changes in steam raising requirements.
