Abstract
869,332. Bending glass sheets. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Jan. 12, 1960 [Jan. 14, 1959], No. 1065/60. Class 56. In a glass bending mould having for example, a centre section 14 comprising side rails 15, 16, pivoted on axes 24 to end sections 18, the rail 15, as shown in section in Fig. 2, carries a rigid glass edge support member 30 extending obliquely outwardly and upwardly from the upper edge of the rail to support only a longitudinal margin of the glass sheet, said support member having a smooth upper surface and sufficient thickness to ensure mechanical rigidity at glass softening temperatures and a horizontally disposed member 34 at a lower level than the member 30 and extending inwardly from the rail 15. The presence of the member 34 causes the tension zone in the glass sheet to be located inwardly from the edge supported by the member 30, its size being chosen so that the zone is located inwardly by at least one inch. Heat absorbing members 27, 28 are located under the extremities of the end sections 18 and inwardly of the rail 16.
