868,042. Coating webs. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. April 21, 1959, No. 13602/59. Class 140. A process for impregnating a continuous web 22, e.g. of paper, with a liquid, e.g. lanolin-oil composition, comprises passing the web over the slotted surface of a container and passing the liquid through the slot or slots in metered quantities at a rate synchronized with the speed of the web. The web is moved by frictional engagement with a driven roll 19 carried on a shaft 15 which is connected with a shaft 14 responsible for driving pumps 12 for the liquid, which is delivered from a reservoir 17 by pipes 11 to the interior of the container 1 which has one or more slots in its top surface through which the liquid issues. The impregnated web is cut by knives 18 which are positioned, if the container 1 has more than one slot, opposite the unslotted portions of the container which may be divided into compartments each having one slot. The web may be perforated by a roller situated intermediate the supply and wind-on rolls.
